UpSkill (Diverse Learners)

Supporting Diverse Learners.

UpSkill has an open-door policy and is here to support students across the school in ways that suit their individual needs.

The programme helps students work towards their NCEA goals while also building skills in self-management and organisation – preparing them for the next steps, whether that’s further study or the workplace. UpSkill can also be chosen as one of your five specialist subjects, with guidance from teachers and whānau to make sure it’s the right fit.

The UpSkill team works closely with external agencies, including Northern Health School and transition services, to provide extra support where needed. Students with ORS (Ongoing Resourcing Scheme) or ICS (In-Class Support) status are supported by Learning Support Assistants who work alongside subject teachers, helping students fully participate in their specialist subjects.

Students with learning challenges or ongoing medical conditions may be eligible for Special Assessment Conditions (SAC) for NCEA exams. UpSkill teachers assess students and can apply to NZQA for SAC approval, and additional support like a reader or writer can also be arranged through the team.
