Recognising Achievement: Year 11 and 12 Celebrations of Excellence

Albany Senior High School (ASHS) proudly came together last week to recognise the achievements, effort, and growth of our Year 11 and 12 students at the 2025 Learning Celebrations.

Held across two special gatherings, these events brought together students and staff to honour those who have consistently demonstrated excellence across all aspects of their learning journey this year – in Specialist Subjects, Impact Projects, and Tutorial.

The celebrations offered a moment to pause, reflect, and acknowledge the dedication, curiosity, and perseverance that have shaped this year’s successes. Together, our ASHS community celebrated the many ways our learners have embodied the school’s values and commitment to personal excellence.

Ngā Rau o te Whāriki Award

The Ngā Rau o te Whāriki Award is a special honour that acknowledges students whose approach to learning across all three strands of the ASHS curriculum – Tutorial, Impact, and Specialist Subjects – has been outstanding.

In Te Ao Māori, Te Whāriki is a foundational mat upon which successful negotiations, initiatives, and progress take place. Ngā Rau o te Whāriki are the strands woven together to build this foundation.

This award celebrates those who have demonstrated excellence in our three key learning dispositions – Engagement, Learning Relationships, and Managing Self – across all areas of their learning throughout the year. These dispositions form the cornerstone of success at ASHS, providing a powerful base for future achievement.

This year’s recipients, recognised for their outstanding personal excellence and unwavering commitment to learning, are:

Year 11: Maeve Green, Deeptha Harish, Geet Jain, Yirou Ruan, and Ken Suratman.

Year 12: Lilliana Cavallo, Lizzie Ellsworth, Nia Lord, Nyah Ng, Carly So, and Jessica Van Rooyen.

Top Scholars

Each year, Top Scholars are named to acknowledge those students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement through consistent excellence in their studies.

Year 11 Top Scholars were identified through their 2025 internal results, classroom conduct, and positive contribution to their learning environments. Subject prize results across all departments were reviewed to determine the students who gained significant Excellence-level achievement – many earning Level 2 credits and multiple subject awards.

Congratulations to our Year 11 Top Scholars Jamie Chamberlain, Phia Hearley, Geet Jain, Kiara Joubert, Joshua Pierce, Yirou Ruan, Harsha Singh, and Aoki-Lee Whiteman.

Year 12 Top Scholars were selected based on their internal results, preliminary exam performance, and subject prize achievements. These learners demonstrated exceptional academic excellence by ranking highly in the number and proportion of Level 2 Excellence credits achieved, as well as being awarded three or more subject prizes.

A big well done to Jaime Bremner, Ruby Burnett, Ivan Chen, Julia I, Karen Lou, Nyah Ng, Brooke Simpson, and Thevin Welikala for being named our Year 12 Top Scholars.

A special congratulations to our Year 11 Top Scholar Phia Hearley and Year 12’s Top Scholar Nyah Ng, who have both demonstrated exceptional dedication, excellence, and leadership in their learning this year.

Looking Ahead

Congratulations to all our Year 11 and 12 award recipients – and to every student who has shown courage, curiosity, and determination throughout 2025.

We are incredibly proud of the progress and achievements of our learners this year, and we can’t wait to see how they continue to grow, lead, and thrive when they return in 2026.
