From learning to skateboard in a school fitness programme to working as a registered nurse in Canberra, Nidhi Maju’s path has been shaped by curiosity, connection, and a strong sense of purpose.
Life after ASHS
A student at Albany Senior High School in 2020 and 2021, Nidhi reflects warmly on her time here – particularly how it prepared her for life beyond the classroom. After graduating, she began studying nursing at AUT in Auckland. Alongside her studies, she got involved as a student ambassador and co-founded a cultural club with university friends – an experience she describes as both fun and meaningful.
That same sense of independence and openness to new experiences eventually led her across the Tasman. Today, she lives in Canberra working as a registered nurse – a role that allows her to make a difference every day.
Skills That Stick
Nidhi credits ASHS with helping her build the foundations she still draws on today. “My experience at ASHS really helped me to transition into adult life,” she explains. “Things like time management and adaptability – I use those skills every day.”
She also highlights the school’s Impact Projects as a defining part of her development. “They helped me discover my critical thinking abilities and taught me to approach problems creatively,” she says. “I learned to step outside my comfort zone, manage projects from scratch, and collaborate with others. It gave me a strong foundation in resilience and reflective thinking – skills that have been essential in my nursing career.”
Memorable Moments
A standout memory from Nidhi’s time at school was learning to skateboard through the Motion fitness programme. “It was such a cool experience,” she says. “I made friends and learned a new skill.” It’s one of many moments that reflect ASHS’s emphasis on well-rounded, student-led learning.
Support That Matters
When asked about influential mentors, Nidhi doesn’t name just one – she credits all her teachers with playing a role in her growth. “Every teacher I had at ASHS contributed to who I am today,” she shares. “Some encouraged me academically, while others supported my personal development and confidence. Their collective guidance helped me believe in my potential and pursue nursing.”
Now working in healthcare and thriving in a new country, Nidhi still carries the lessons – and encouragement – she received at ASHS into every aspect of her professional life.
