Although this is only our third year of operation we already have some time honoured traditions. The first of these is the Powhiri we hold to welcome our new students. This year the Powhiri will start at 8:50 am and, weather permitting, will be held in the Plaza. The new students will assemble by the historic school house and will be called on to the school by Kuia, Moana Cullens. Tom Manners, the Kaumatua will be performing the karakia and Victor Henare will speak on behalf of the new students. Once the formal part of the ceremony is complete, the Principal, Barbara Cavanagh will welcome all the new families to our learning community and ask the Year 12 and Year 13 students to head off to their Tutorial groups. She will then call out the Year 11 Tutorial groups. As this is the first year we will have all three year levels we are certainly hoping there will be a great turn out of families to share this special start to our academic year.
